we should detach from old burdening historical patterns

Abstract:
Today, the Alamans and their conquest of
land are not more wholesale brought together with horrors, barbarism and
murder as it had been imagined in former days. We all welcome this development
in today´s discussion.
In this present essay we pass on one step
more. In our understanding, alamans give the model to a relative peaceful,
poly- ethnical penetration und settling of southern German areas.

Of course, we don´t
deny that aleman conquest during its first years had been fullfilled with
many fights, plunderings, etc. But this aspects had been over-subscribed
by Roman autors and don´t fit to the later, very peacefull
rule of this tribe.
But the negative view had been passed on till today, for it proved as useful for a certain, specific pattern of political thinking. Our thesis refutes the customary
assumption of war-like, oppressive occupation of the new country by a homogeneous
ethnic tribe. This dogma turns out to be a pattern, cultivated by political
right - wing people in Germany.

In some other, more opposited ranges you´ll find the same one-sided view but in glorification of late Roman Empire and holding their backwardness before German tribes with their life and culture.
We want to point out, that our allemanic tribes were disposing of a highly qualified conception in political leading, cultural and technological standards and their entire way of life.
